Who We’re Looking For

We are on the hunt for a dynamic team member with a PhD in a science or STEM field. You’ll play a vital role in our innovative Consulting Team while also contributing to our Data and Training Teams. Our specific areas of interest include agriculture and health sciences.

Role Overview

This position will provide a diverse range of experiences. Approximately half your time will be spent collaborating with our knowledgeable data consultants to develop and implement innovative data management and analytics solutions. The other half will involve engaging with clients through training and mentoring sessions, both online and in-person.

Key Responsibilities

Your role will encompass a variety of tasks, including:

  • Digital Tools Development: Helping sustainable development programs create and implement digital tools and analytics systems to optimize workflow and data usage.
  • Technical Advisory: Working on projects in Africa and Asia, providing consulting services to improve information management and sharing.
  • Training and Mentoring: Delivering courses and workshops, offering individual support in areas such as:
    • Journal article and report writing
    • Grant writing
    • Project management
    • Communications for non-specialists
  • Business Development: Contributing to marketing efforts and client outreach across the company.

Work Environment

  • Flexible Hours: Staff can work from home or our Tooting office during standard operational hours (08:30-17:30).
  • Remote Working: If working remotely, a suitable environment for video calls and training sessions is necessary.
  • Collaboration: You will interact regularly with senior team members, facilitating skill acquisition and idea exchange.

Travel Requirements

This role involves regular travel for training courses, predominantly in the UK, estimated at 2 to 8 days per month. There may also be opportunities for international travel to developing countries. Therefore, candidates must be willing to travel in compliance with UK government guidelines.

Key Skills and Experience

Essential Qualifications

To be considered for this role, you must possess:

  • A PhD in a quantitative STEM research subject.
  • A minimum of two years of postdoc or industry experience in a research or research-support role.
  • Strong understanding of research processes, data analysis, and management.
  • Proven writing skills, including experience with journal articles and writing for non-specialist audiences.
  • At least one first-author publication in a peer-reviewed journal.
  • Experience delivering live training or teaching courses.
  • Proficiency in MS Excel and MS PowerPoint.
  • Excellent English language skills, comparable to a native speaker.
  • The legal right to work in the UK.

  • Experience with statistical analysis using R.
  • Background in grant writing or management.
  • Experience in creating communications materials that make science accessible to non-specialists.

Salary and Benefits

  • Salary: Competitive, based on qualifications and experience, typically between £35,000 and £38,000 per annum.
  • Annual Leave: 25 days per year plus public holidays, totaling 33 days.
