Location: West Midlands and surrounding areas
Employment Type: Permanent, Full-Time (37.5 hours per week)

About the Role

The RSPB (Royal Society for the Protection of Birds) is seeking a motivated and skilled Face-to-Face Membership Area Manager to oversee our fundraising efforts in the West Midlands. In this role, you will lead a team of Membership Fundraisers who engage with the public at various venues and events, inspiring them to support our mission by becoming members of our organization.

Key Responsibilities

As the Area Manager for the West Midlands, your responsibilities will include:

  • Team Leadership: Guide and support your team through regular in-person visits, one-on-one meetings, phone conversations, and both virtual and face-to-face meetings.
  • Performance Management: Conduct monthly recruiting shifts with each team member to provide constructive feedback and follow-up on individual action plans.
  • Quality Assurance: Ensure that Fundraisers uphold the RSPB’s standards, code of conduct, values, and brand through their communication and presentation.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with your line manager to report on team performance and collaborate with peers to share resources and knowledge across the region.
  • Flexibility: Adapt to changing circumstances and provide support as needed, demonstrating strong time management and organizational skills.

Building Relationships

In this role, you will be responsible for:

  • Stakeholder Engagement: Develop effective working relationships with key stakeholders, including other Area Managers, the Membership Venues Team, Employee Recruitment Advisors, and staff at local RSPB nature reserves.
  • Recruitment and Training: Recruit, select, and induct new Membership Fundraisers, providing best practice training to build their capabilities through buddy shifts and support visits.

Leadership and Culture

As an Area Manager, you are expected to:

  • Lead by Example: Demonstrate and uphold RSPB standards and values in your daily actions and interactions.
  • Foster a Positive Culture: Create an environment where feedback is regularly given and received, helping to manage team performance and cultivate strong working relationships.
  • Implement Leadership Models: Use leadership techniques such as root cause analysis and SMART objectives to develop your team’s skills and capabilities.

Travel Requirements

This position involves traveling throughout the West Midlands and surrounding areas to support your team. A company van will be provided for this purpose, and all associated expenses will be covered. A valid UK driving licence is required for this role.
