Contract: Permanent
Hours: 37 hours
Salary: £41,408 to £44,428 per annum

This new role within our Environment & Sustainability Team presents an exciting chance to shape and drive a range of sustainability initiatives and guide the Council’s response to climate change. We seek a dedicated and knowledgeable individual to help develop and implement Rutland’s Sustainability Strategy, aligning it with key priorities in our corporate plan.

Recognising the Council’s critical role in addressing climate change and sustainability, we collaborate with local businesses, community organisations, and government partners to influence policies and actions that promote net-zero and sustainability goals across the County.

We have several ongoing projects, including the development of a Local Nature Recovery Plan, and a consortium-driven initiative to expand electric vehicle charging infrastructure in Rutland. Sustainability is embedded in our operations, and we aim to further integrate it into everything we do.

About You:

  • Passionate about making a difference and leading stakeholders to achieve sustainability goals.
  • Proactive, enthusiastic, and a great communicator.
  • Strong knowledge of sustainability, climate change, and relevant legislation.
  • Skilled in policy development, strategy, and project delivery.

About the Role:

As the Sustainability and Climate Change Officer, you’ll:

  • Influence the Council’s climate response by developing and implementing a Sustainability Strategy and action plan.
  • Foster culture and behavior change within the organisation and community to support sustainability efforts.
  • Lead projects focused on carbon reduction, biodiversity net gain, and nature recovery.
  • Bring people and policies together to embed sustainability in Rutland’s core values.
