Position: Assistant Farm Environment Adviser

We are currently seeking enthusiastic candidates for the position of Assistant Farm Environment Adviser to serve the Cornwall area. This role is crucial in providing comprehensive reporting, administrative support, and mapping assistance to our existing team.

Key Responsibilities

The Assistant Farm Environment Adviser will have the following responsibilities:

  • Environmental Advice: Assist in delivering independent, objective, and professional environmental guidance to farmers, landowners, and land managers.
  • Project Support: Collaborate with Farm Environment Advisers to provide farm advice on chargeable work, including:
    • Sustainable Farming Incentive (SFI) applications
    • Hedge assessments
    • Habitat surveys
  • Communication: Engage with farmers and partners through various channels—phone, email, in-person meetings, and virtual platforms like Teams or Zoom. Your goal will be to support FWAG’s mission by advising and inspiring sustainable changes in land management practices.
  • Report Production: Create and distribute outputs for farmers and project partners, including advice reports and GIS mapping.
  • Event Organization: Help organize workshops and community engagement events.
  • Administration: Assist with administrative tasks and data management to support the smooth operation of FWAG SW’s initiatives.
  • Development Support: Contribute to the ongoing growth and development of FWAG South West’s projects.

Ideal Candidate Profile

We are looking for a motivated individual with the following qualifications:

  • Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential for interacting with farmers and stakeholders.
  • Attention to Detail: A keen eye for detail is crucial when producing reports and engaging with data.
  • Understanding of Farming Systems: A solid understanding of farming practices and environmental issues will enhance your effectiveness in this role.

Training and Career Development

FWAG SW offers various training and development opportunities, both internal and external. Salary and Benefits

  • Starting Salary: £24,610 per annum, with opportunities for rapid progression based on performance.
  • Work Schedule: This is a full-time position, but part-time applications (minimum of 4 days per week) will also be considered.

Holiday Entitlement

  • Annual Leave: 25 days per annum, increasing by one day per year of service, up to a maximum of 30 days, plus statutory holidays.
  • Flexible Working: We offer flexible working arrangements and the option for Time Off In Lieu (TOIL).

Office Location

This position primarily covers the county of Cornwall. Work will be largely home-based, but there will be an office base near Truro.
